Born on May 21, 1930 in Dover, NJ, to the late Eugene and Sylvia Valley. The family lived in Rockaway. "Dear God... Thank you for yesterday. All went well. Today I need Your spiritual love, guidance, and wisdom in all that I do. Please watch over..." Our dearest mother wrote this in her journal daily, adding the names of her children and grandchildren as the spirit moved her.
Beloved mother of Sharon and her husband Dan Kuhnert of Carlsbad, CA, Hugh and his wife Patricia Doherty of Little Silver, Mary E. Doherty of Hackensack, Maureen Doherty of Tampa, FL, Timothy Doherty of Clifton, Susan Doherty and her husband Patrick Gibney of Boca Raton, FL and Kathleen "Kitty" Doherty of Hasbrouck Heights. She was blessed with twenty-seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whom she adored and loved very much. Loving sister to Ann Miller of Rockaway and Walter Valley of Virginia Beach, VA.
Prior to raising her children, Jean first worked as a nurse at Dover General Hospital and then became a stewardess for Eastern Airlines (back in the day when it was required to be a nurse to work as a stewardess. After raising her children, she returned to work as a nurse for Unlimited Care in White Plains up until one year prior to her death. Mom so loved to help and serve others, especially children. One of her greatest joys in life was a teacher of CCD classes, first at Corpus Christi R.C. Church in Hasbrouck Heights and later at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Franklin Lakes. There, she was a member of the Knitting Club for the Linus Project, devoted to providing blankets for homeless children. It was very important to her to share her faith with the world.
