- Gardiner Man is Ruled Suicide
Ivar James Klyve, 26, of Ireland Corners Hotel died about 5:55 a.m. today apparently the victim of a self-inflicted gun shot would.
Coroner Francis J. McCardle, who went to the scene returned a verdict of death by suicide.
Klyve resided at the hotel,located on Route 44-55 in the town of Gardiner, with his wife and 19 months old daughter. The hotel is operated by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isak Klyve.
As the coroner and Sergeant Lynn Baker of the State Police pieced the story together, Klyve had been discharged from the U.S. Air Force on May 30 after four years of service. He had shown signs of nervousness and despondency, the coroner said.
Last night he and his wife, June Marie went to a movie in Newburgh and on the way home stopped for a few drinks, arriving at the hotel at about 3 a.m.
Klyve, a draftsman for Modern Design of Poughkeepsie, got out of bed during the night, went downstairs and about 5 a.m.the family heard a shot. Dr. Jeffrey Wiersum of New Paltz treated him but Klyve died about 5:55 a.m. An 8 mm. rifle was found along side the body. Coroner McCardle said that Klyve died of a massive cranial hemorrhage and that there would be no post mortem.
The body was removed to the Pine Funeral Home, New Paltz. Klyve, born in Brooklyn was a veteran of the Korean conflict.
Besides his parents he is survived by his wife the former June Marie Roosa and a daughter Cindy Lee.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Pine Funeral Home with the Rev. John E. Swords of the Modena Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in New Paltz Rural Cemetery.

Ivar J. Klyve, 26, draftsman for Modern Design Division of H.C. Schloer Inc., Poughkeepsie, died suddenly at the Ireland Corners Hotel, Gardiner, Saturday morning.
Mr. Klyve had been suffering from the recurrence of a nervous condition which he had developed while in service. He had been discharged from military service last May.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. June Marie Roose Klyve, a daughter, Cindy Lee Klyve, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isak Klyve who own and operate the Ireland Corners Hotel.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon at the Pine Funeral Home with the Rev. John E. Swords, pastor of the Modena Methodist Church officiating. Burial took place in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
