- Harriet Marion (Petersen) Syversen, 92, of Bickford Drive Extension, wife of 61 years, the late Harold Syversen, passed away, Monday, (January 2, 2006) at Valerie Manor Home in Torrington.
She was born July 25, 1913, to the late Maurice and Sigfried (Eskild) Petersen in Brooklyn, NY.
Mrs. Syversen was actively involved in her church, scouts, Historical Society of Bergen County and numerous community activities in the town of Teaneck and Closter, NJ, where she and her husband Harold, made their home. She moved to Connecticut after the death of her husband in November of 1999.
The Historical Society of Early American Decorations, which she was an active part of, recently honored her with a lifelong Honorary Membership in the Guild. As a Master Craftsman and certified to teach in several areas of her learned expertice, Mrs. Syversen taught her craft for many students for more than 20 years. Reverse Painting on Glass, Theorem Painting, Lace End Painting, and Gold Leafing were just a few examples of her level of artistic abilities, as well as her knowledge of these techniques.
Mrs. Syversen is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert G. and Joanne Syversen of Cape Coral, FL and Ralph H. and Sharon M. Syversen of Burlington; two granddaughters, Ellen Syversen and her husband Chris and Kristin Syversen Bove and her husband Michael; two great-granddaughters, Audrie and Mia Syversen, and great-grandson Ethan Michael Bove, born January 3, 2006, just six hours after Harriet passed away.
The family will receive condolences at the Ralph Syversen home at 62 Punch Brook Road, Burlington, on Saturday, January 7 between the hours of 2-6 p.m.
